With the support of your therapist you can find ways to stand back from your distress, or from the issues that are troubling you. Then you can begin to discover resources within yourself and look at some of the things you may have been attempting to avoid.
We all have coping mechanisms that serve us well for years and years. Eventually these survival strategies start to hold us back.
Committing yourself to take time out of your week for therapy – acknowledging that you would like to have some help, is a big step towards developing the insight and the new skills that are more likely to support the full development of your potential.
The feedback I hear over and over again is that it is really helpful to talk things through with someone outside of your ‘system’ (your network of family and friends) and to have the chance to try out new behaviours in an empathic and neutral space.
We will focus our first two sessions on:
- your aim – how do you want to feel?
- a sense of the issues holding you back,
- how we will work together (frequency, times, etc)
This will give us an idea of what it is you want and some guidelines for the journey, which is a good starting place.
Making space for yourself and your health can evoke uneasy feelings at first.
What you can do, or dream you can do, begin it;

Take the first step in faith.
You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.

Give the process time. A sense of relaxation and safety grows gradually, with the support of the regularity and certainty that the space is there for you.
Yes it’s a commitment – both financially and in prioritising your time –and it’s a commitment to your growth and happiness, your relationships, and your ability to live your potential.
